Benefits of Being Socially Active for Jacksonville Seniors

We all know the benefits of being physically active, but are you aware of the importance of being socially active as you age? Regular social contact plays an important part in improving your mood and overall quality of life. If you are enjoying regular social interactions, you may be putting yourself at risk for depression or even some forms dementia. Staying socially active can help you maintain or improve physical fitness, keep you mentally alert, and improve your emotional health and cognitive function.

Not only does regular social interaction with peers lead to a happier life and sharper mind, but it gives you a sense of belonging and keeps you connected to friends and the world around you. An active social life can reduce high blood pressure, boost your immune system and since we tend to eat more when socializing, may even improve your nutrition.

Go to the Gym. As mentioned, staying physically active is very important for every senior. By joining a gym, or exercising with neighborhood friends, you will keep your body active, improve your balance, feel proud of your efforts and be social engagement with others.

Have a Party: Inviting family or friends for a party or even starting a gourmet or go out to diner group is a great way to stay active, have fun, maintain relationship and stay socially active.
