Assisted Living Offers Safety for Jacksonville Seniors

Health and safety concerns increase as we age; this is especially true for seniors who live alone. As we grow older our bone become more fragile and loss of balance becomes more of an everyday issue. Slips and falls as well as kitchen and bathroom injuries are all too common among seniors nationwide, and unfortunately there is always the possibility of a serious medical emergency with no help readily available. Also, seniors make an easy target for scam artists or burglars looking for a vulnerable target.

If you are concerned with your own safety or the safety of a loved one, Assisted Living or Senior Care facilities (community)offer a far safer and more secure environment than living alone at home.

These communities are ADA compliant, and feature on-site nursing and security professional(personal)  who can be contacted immediately in case of emergency. They provide healthy meals, daily activities and have fire, hurricane and other disaster plans already in place. They have the ability and resources needed to continue a resident’s care plan in the event of a disruption.

Also, living in a community with other residents and vigilant staff members, as opposed to an isolated single home can provide a deterrent to criminal activity.

Safety Questions to ask when selecting an Assisted Living or Senior Care Facility (Community)

When touring a potential community, round the clock hour safety should be one of your top priorities.

  • Ask questions about existing safety features and procedures.
  • Ask how quickly medical help can be summoned and if staff available 24/7.
  • Ask if they review disaster plans with residents and conduct regular practice drills.
  • Ask how they will notify you in case of an emergency.
  • Ask about the types of supplies they keep on hand for disaster situations.
  • Ask how they intend to adhere to your loved one care plans during an emergency.
  • Ask how staff members are trained to handle emergency and disaster situations.
